What are executive function skills?
Executive function skills are a set of mental skills like working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills to learn, work, and manage our day-to-day life. Children who have trouble with executive function skills have difficulties focusing, following directions, completing assignments, managing their time, and staying organized. These skills begin developing in early childhood and continue developing through the mi-twenties.
What happens in executive function coaching?
An Executive Function Coach develops and strengthens executive function skills. They help identify the executive function challenges a student has and how they impact their academics. Children are introduced to strategies and tools so they can learn how to plan, prioritize, organize, manage their time, and work more efficiently. An EF Coach coordinates with teachers and parents to ensure consistent support as well as work with children to expand their self-advocacy skills and encourage their independence.
