Kat Gates

Kat Gates, a Michigan native, is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and Language Arts. Upon graduating, Kat pursued a career in classroom teaching where she worked at both private and public schools in various grade levels. With over 10 years of experience in the education field, Kat approaches learning with enthusiasm and practical tools and skills to help her students thrive.
Kat moved to Chicago in 2016 where she taught 2nd and 3rd grade for five years. In 2018, she went through IMSE’s Orton Gillingham training program, and has been utilizing the skills she learned with her students in whole group, small group, and one on one settings. Following the birth of her son in 2020, Kat left the classroom and began seeing students privately with a primary focus in reading, writing, and comprehension.
In her free time, Kat enjoys spending time with her husband, Matt, and two-year-old son, Austin. You can often find the three of them playing at a local park, spending time with family, or lifting weights at the local CrossFit gym.
